PETG – Print Settings

PETG is a high-performance filament that combines the ease of printing similar to PLA with the durability and flexibility of ABS. It offers excellent strength, impact resistance, and temperature tolerance, making it ideal for functional and mechanical parts. For example, in OrcaSlicer https://orca-slicer.com/ for the Bambu Lab A1 Mini printer with a 0.4 mm nozzle.

Printing Temperature

Select the Printer Profile

These recommendations are for all BambuLab printers, as the most widely used printer. Professional and extra powerful printers need specific settings, especially max flow. For these cases please do not hesitate to contact us support.

1. Select the Printer Profile

  • In the top left corner, select Bambu Lap printer
  • In the Bed type field, choose the appropriate bed type, such as Textured PEI Plate.

2. Edit Filament Settings

Click on the pencil icon next to the filament name (in our case, Filamentree PLA) to open the filament settings.

Bed Temperature

For Textured PEI Plate:

  • First layer: 70°C
  • Other layers: 70°C

The temperature is specifically set for the Textured PEI Plate as it provides excellent adhesion for PETG  at 70°C. For other types of plates (e.g., Cool Plate, Smooth Plate), the temperature remains at 0°C because they are not used in this configuration.

Edit Settings

PETG typically requires a higher printing temperature than PLA+ to achieve good layer adhesion and minimize stringing.

📌 Where to set it?

1. Open OrcaSlicer

2. Go to Filament Settings

3. Set Nozzle Temperature between 225 - 270°C

The range between 255°C and 270°C provides a good balance between adhesion and material flow. If you are printing with a specific PETG, make sure these temperatures align with the manufacturer’s recommendations.

Max Volumetric Speed

In OrcaSlicer settings, Max Volumetric Speed limits the maximum volume of filament that can be extruded through the nozzle per second. This is a critical parameter that affects print quality and helps avoid issues with filament feeding.

What does this parameter mean?

  • Max Volumetric Speed (MVS): Limits the rate of filament extrusion in mm³/s.
  • If the value is exceeded, the extruder may struggle to feed the filament, which can lead to:
    • Under-extrusion (insufficient material is deposited).
    • Decreased surface quality and detail precision.
    • Missed steps or damage to the extruder’s feed gears.

Cooling for specific layer

Setting the No cooling for the first parameter is critically important to ensure:

  1. Reliable adhesion of the model to the print bed: Disabling cooling for the first 3 layers ensures that the material stays warm enough to bond firmly with the print surface.
  2. Avoidance of deformation or delamination of the base layers: By disabling cooling for the first 3 layers, the foundation has sufficient time to stabilize and avoid deformation or cracking.
  3. A smooth transition to the cooling mode, which helps maintain high print quality throughout the process: Gradually introducing cooling after the first layers ensures that subsequent layers adhere properly while maintaining overall print quality.

By setting this parameter, you create a stable foundation for the entire print, ensuring that PETG’s unique properties are fully leveraged to achieve high-quality and reliable results.

Part cooling fan

  • Minimum Fan Speed: 10% (Layer Time: 30 seconds)

For layers that take 30 seconds or more to print, a low fan speed of 10% ensures gradual cooling. Prevents excessive drying of PETG during long layer times.

  • Maximum Fan Speed: 50% (Layer Time: 12 seconds)

For shorter layer times of 12 seconds or less, a higher fan speed of 50% is needed to ensure quick cooling. Prevents heat deformation or stringing in small, detailed areas.

       Always on:

       ✔️ Keep fan always on

✔️ Slow printing down for better layer cooling

✔️ Force cooling for overhangs and bridges
       Always off:

✖️ Don’t slow down outer walls

The settings are optimized for PETG to achieve high-quality prints with strong layer adhesion and minimal defects. These configurations ensure stable printing on Bambu Lab printers.  Adjustments can be made as needed based on the specific PETG filament or print model requirements. Thanks to these parameters, you will achieve a stable and high-quality result.
